This homemade dinner roll dough recipe does not need eggs, so if you are a vegan, skip the chicken and you’ll have a vegan dinner roll recipe.

The processes of preparing, watching it rise in the oven, the aroma that fills the kitchen, and last but not least eating the delicious baked food. And also, the fact that you don’t have to stand in front of the stove all the while. You can relax and do your other chores while dinner is getting ready.

These stuffed dinner rolls are a great option for dinner, breakfast, or parties. These can also be a wonderful appetizer for Ramadan.

A side dip always elevates the dish further. You can have these rolls with mint yogurt chutney, ketchup, mayonnaise, cheese dip, or any dip of your choice. Mint yogurt chutney is the healthiest among the other dips. The recipe is mentioned below.

For dough:

  • 1 +1/2 cup of brown flour
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. instant yeast
  • 2 tsp. olive oil

For filling:

  • 2 cup Frozen mixed vegetables (carrot, beans, corn, peas)
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • 1/2 tsp. Ginger garlic paste/ chopped garlic
  • 1 tbsp. tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp. soup powder/ 1/2 tsp. oregano
  • 8 Chicken mosahab/nuggets/ 250g chicken breast

I used vegetables and chicken Mosahab as the filling. Chicken mosahab is very similar to chicken nuggets. however, I had these on hand and used them for the filling and it turned out amazing.

Frozen vegetables take very little time to cook hence, the filling can be made within just 5 minutes. You can use fresh vegetables but will have to cook them longer.

Moreover, It’s completely up to you, add any filling of your choice. You can add cheese and garlic with butter or shredded chicken with veggies. In other words, Try different filling each time.

How to make stuffed dinner rolls

For dough:

Step 1

Mix flour, salt, sugar, yeast in a bowl. pour the olive oil on top. Heat water to Lukewarm in the microwave and add into the bowl and knead the dough for 3 minutes.

Step 2

Grease the bowl, place the dough, brush some oil on top, cover and let it rest for 1 hour in a dark and warm place.

Meanwhile, take out chicken mosahab from the freezer and let thaw outside. If the mosahab is cold, the rolls won’t rise.

Step 3

Flour the counter, place the dough and cut it into 8 equal parts. Make into balls by slowly pushing the dough upwards. Roll the balls to form sheets.

Add the filling, place the mosahab and fold the sides. Add mozzarella cheese if you wish. Then roll it. Place it on a baking tray with a baking sheet. Cover with cling film and let rest for 30 minutes.

Step 5

Preheat the oven to 200 Degree C. Egg wash the rolls and sprinkle some sesame seeds or else black seeds. Bake at 180 degrees C for 15 – 20 minutes. Delicious stuffed dinner rolls ready!

How to egg wash: Beat an egg in a bowl with a pinch of salt and brush on top of the rolls

For filling:

Heat a pan with olive oil, add the frozen vegetables, salt, pepper, and cook for 2 minutes. Add ginger-garlic paste/chopped garlic and tomato paste and cook for another minute. Then, add a tablespoon of water mixed with the soup powder. Mix well cook for a minute and turn off the flame.

You can use any ready-made soup powder, chicken, mushroom, or vegetable. The soup powder gives it a distinct flavor. You can substitute this with oregano or Italian seasoning.

If you want to add chicken breast instead of chicken musahab, First add the chicken breast cubes into the pan with salt and pepper. Once the chicken cubes are cooked, add the vegetables and cook as instructed above.

How do you know when your rolls are done?

Preheat the oven to 200 degree C and bake at 180 degree C (350 F) for 15 minutes. The rolls will turn golden brown when cooked and your kitchen will smell like a bakery. That’s when you know your rolls are done!

How do you shape dinner rolls?

Cut the dough to 8 equal wedges. Then fold it into a ball shape and roll it into a circle. Add the filling, fold the sides and roll the dough. Keeping the open side to the bottom. Refer Step 4.

How to make mint yogurt chutney?

Grind 4-5 stem coriander leaves, mint leaves, and 1 green chili. Add this to a cup of yogurt with 1/2 tsp. of salt and mix well. Yeah, That simple!

How to store dinner rolls?

Dinner rolls can last for 3-4 days in the refrigerator. Store them in an airtight box. If you freeze the rolls, they can last for a month. Wrap the rolls individually and store them in an airtight box or bag to ensure freshness. To reheat, thaw in the fridge overnight. Bake in the oven as mentioned below.

How do you reheat dinner rolls?

Oven: Sprinkle some water on the rolls, wrap them in aluminum foil and bake at 180 degree C for 10 minutes. Water helps to keep the food fresh and avoids drying it out while reheating it.

Microwave: Wrap the rolls in a moistened paper towel and heat for 20 seconds on medium power.
