It is a savory drink made with yogurt, salt, and water which is very popular in the middle east. Many like to serve the drink topped with chopped mint leaves, which is totally optional. This drink has a very thin consistency and is served chilled.

How to make Shanina Drink?

Gather the ingredients

In a jar/bowl, add yogurt, salt, and vinegar. Whisk well, until smooth.

Now, add water and mix well. Refrigerate and serve chilled.

Alternatively, dump all ingredients in mixer blender and run for 30 seconds

It is shanina drink same as Ayran?

Yes, it is the same as ayran drink. This drink is known by different names in different countries.

  • In Iraq, it is called shanina
  • In Dubai, Saudi, Qatar, Bahrain, turkey it is known as Ayran.
  • Whereas, in Iran, this drink is called Doogh

So, call it shanina, ayran or Doogh. The recipe remains same, healthy and refreshing.

Is Shanina drink healthy?

Shanina drink is made with yogurt. Needless to say, it has got numerous health benefits.

Yogurts have been around for thousands of years and it is a rich source of calcium, protein, and vitamins (D, B2, B12, and B5).

Only about half a cup of yogurt provides 25-30 % of your daily calcium needs and delivers about 7-9 grams of protein.
